ZS 460-030 is the rear power car of this four car hybrid unit as it leaves Cierna nad Tisou zastava on 26 September 2011

  • Cierna nad Tisou is about two miles from the border with Ukraine and, railway speaking, is a vast collection of transfer yards and sheds to cope with the change of gauge to the Russian broad gauge system. Most passenger services are formed of local stopping trains from Kosice such as SZ 460-048 waiting for departure with the 10:10 to Kosice on 26 September 2011
  • The depot is alongside Cierna nad Tisou zastava station and this shot of dumped ZS721-001 was taken from the platform on 26 September 2011
  • A through road runs between the depot and the station at Cierna nad Tisou zastava and gives access to the yards and complexes further west. ZS 770.056 passes on 26 September 2011 with a long rake of open wagons
  • The depot at Cierna nad Tisou is not electrified but a stabling point for electric locos is at the east end of the depot yard - SZ 183-037 sits in the sunshine on 26 September 2011

  • The latest large diesels to appear for shunting the broad gauge yards at Cierna nad Tisou (also at Haniska pri Kosiciach) are these rebuilds of Class 771 locos by the workshops at Zvolen. Ten were rebuilt and were standard gauge locos based around Zvolen - whether these are the locos that have now been fitted with broad gauge bogies or whether a new batch has been built I'm not yet sure.
