  • A light engine movement heading to Neff Yard in Kansas City has a real mixture on 22 July 1998. Headed by Southern Pacific SD45-T2 9317 (furthest from camera), Union Pacific SD40-2 3076 and Chicago North Western GP50 5533 (recently renumbered from 5084, hence the odd numberboards!). A good example of UP during the change after the takeovers of CNW and SP
  • Union Pacific SD40-2 3238 leads Southern Pacific locos 4807 and 7828 through Lexington on 18 July 1998
  • The local freight service on the Burlington Northern lines at Fremont was formed of GP38-2 2295 and GP39M 2813 on 9 July 1998

  • Very early in the morning of 10 July 1998 and I'm driving west along US30 out of Fremont - a constant stream of trains makes progress very slow! Near Ames in very overcast pre-dawn light Chicago North Western C44-9W 8621 and MPI leaser SD45 9018 hurry east with a long trailer train
  • A pair of Operation Lifesaver units together, Chicago & North Western C44-9ACW 8818 and Union Pacific C44-9ACW 6736 (formerly CNW 8834), arrive from the east at North Platte on 11 July 1998

  • The mainline through Clinton is Union Pacific territory but Burlington Northern work in on a branchline to service the customers on a small yard system - GP38-2 2340 does the honours on 8 July 1998
  • The area known as The Gooseneck in Kansas City can get busy at times. In this shot from 4th Street bridge on 22 July 1988 can be seen a set of light BN power comprising GP50 3131, B30-7A 4106 and 4049 and SD40-2 7126 heading back to Murray Yard passing a transfer freight from Murray to Argentine Yard. To the right can be seen a UP coal train headed for Neff Yard behind AC4400CW 7100 and SD9043AC 8061
